Not all DALI devices behave the same. Each driver has a “device type” that defines how it communicates with the control system. Two of the most common are DT6 and DT8.
Fixed CCT with DT6.
DT6 is used for single-channel control. It’s ideal for fixed-CCT luminaires such as 2700K or 4000K versions of Dea Ceres M. Each output requires its own DALI address. For example, a luminaire with two independent heads needs two DT6 addresses. This setup keeps things simple when you only need dimming — not colour tuning.
Tunable white with DT8.
DT8 handles dual-channel control through a single address. It’s the standard for tunable white and colour-changing luminaires, including RGB and RGBW. In the tunable white version of Dea Ceres M, the DT8 driver mixes warm and cool LEDs internally to reach the desired colour temperature and intensity. This reduces wiring complexity and ensures uniform control across a space. Learn more about tunable white.
DT8 and circadian lighting.
DT8 is ideal for human-centric lighting concepts, where the light colour changes smoothly throughout the day. The driver manages both channels automatically — no need to program multiple circuits. Learn more about circadian lighting.
Why choosing between DT6 and DT8 matters.
Choose DT6 for simple dimming of fixed-CCT luminaires. Choose DT8 when your project includes tunable white or dynamic lighting control. Both ensure reliable performance when properly applied.
